Biography

Diyora is a master’s degree holder specialising in international law. She obtained her degree at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where her primary areas of study were branches of International Public Law.

She earned her undergraduate degree from Westminster International University in Tashkent, with a major in Commercial Law, which formed the basis for her growing interest in the World Trade Organization (WTO). During her studies, she was drawn to specific modules focused on the WTO, which ignited her desire to explore this subject further. What particularly appealed to her was the fact that most nations adhere to WTO regulations and the organization's role in fostering stable markets through a fair-trade system, with a membership of 164 countries and an openness to more.

Furthermore, her knowledge and comprehension of the law and policies of the WTO considerably improved through her internship at the UWED WTO Chair as a Research and Lecturer Assistant Intern. During her internship, she significantly developed her analytical abilities and learned how to create structured reports. This internship has given her practical experience in researching a variety of topics related to international trade, including trade agreements, tariffs, and non-tariff barriers.

Currently she holds the position of a Teacher on the WTO Law at UWED, where she delivers engaging seminars by facilitating class discussions for undergraduate students majoring both in International Economic Relations and International Law. Additionally among her responsibilities is also the design and administration of assessments, including exams, quizzes, and projects, ensuring fair and consistent evaluation. Also, alongside the members of the UWED WTO Chairs Program, they organise international conferences on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.

She has also won a scholarship offered by the UWED to take part in a week-long intensive course on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures taught by James Flett and Luca Rubini at the World Trade Institute in Bern, Switzerland (January 6 - 9 February 2023). Subsequently, she decided to base her dissertation on the legal basis for the regulation of subsidies under the WTO Legal System.

As part of her academic journey, she also took up various extracurricular activities that have given her leadership and teamwork experience. She has served as a secretariat member for a number of Model United Nations (MUN) clubs. She also participated as a delegate in various economic and trade-related simulations. These events enabled her to develop her public speaking, debating, and analytical skills and highlighted the importance of collaboration and negotiation in solving complex issues.
